Are books like Harry Potter and Twilight ruining literary expectations for kids?

I almost take the stance that at least if it gets them to read then it's OK. But, I grew up on the clics which have given me such an amazing spectrum of literature, history, and vocabulary, that I wonder if these entertainment novels really produce kids who are less literate than my generation. (I say 'my generation' but I'm only 23.)
