Has anyone received an engagement ring and been dissapointed with their fiance's choice?

I do not mean to sound selfish! I have not even received an engagement ring - yet. My first marriage ended up with my having him prosecuted for molesting our daughter & I have remained single for many years to be strong for my children & we are all doing wonderful & I am NOT seflish - I promise you!! I have finally opened up to a wonderful man & we talk of marriage & everyone is in apporval & we are taking our time. I dream of the day he puts a ring on my finger, but this nagging little voice inside my head knows he has NO CLUE when it comes to jewelry & I however do not have expensive taste, but do have extensive knowledge because of family business experience. I would love to receive some sappy romantic gesture - truley - but worry if he picks something - I'll see the flaws & such - It would be this inner struggle between knowing and feeling & I WANT the feeling to win! I do not want this to happen but worry it could & he has shown no interest in learning - so been there already!?
