TV reception picture?

My tv stations are very snowy but fine through digital tv I have checked the arial which is in the attic for the last 5 years and connections are okay but have noticed that there is gloss paint on the coax cable where it comes from the attic into the bedroom so can paint affect the cable and work itself inside the cable and cause interference?
